You’ve probably thought a lot about how to take your nonprofit or social organization to the next level. Whatever your goals, a big piece of any campaign is awareness. Community events can be a great way to put yourself in front of people who might not know about your organization and your mission.
From planting gardens to holding celebrations, events are great ways to bring people in the community together for a common cause. Additionally, it’s often inexpensive to be a part of them. Many are free!
There are two main ways you can contribute to events: time and expertise.
Lending time to an event is easy – just show up and help out. For example, members of your organization could help serve food at a community dinner. You could decide to help pick up trash on a neighborhood cleanup day, too. In a lot of cases, the organization holding the events might spotlight that your organization chipped in. (In addition, it’s a great way to build team morale, too!)
To lend your expertise, think about what your organization can bring to the table. If you run a museum, you could bring artifacts to a local history day. Or a dance company could hold a performance during an art walk.
Depending on the event, you might want to wear shirts or hats that identify your organization. (Don’t forget business cards, too!) And afterwards, you can post some photos or tell a story from the day on your social media accounts.
Community events can be a lot of fun and a way to make a great impact. But they can also be a great way to increase exposure. They allow you to reach people who might not even know you’re there – and it shows you care about the community!
